Get Out of Your Comfort Zone Through Dance Workouts Classes

We know that when people dance past their comfort zone, they often encounter incredible personal growth, along with some of life’s most rewarding experiences. This is where you meet new people, pursue new interests, and discover new passions. 

As veteran Jazzercise instructor Toni Pitruzzello points out, “The thing about the comfort zone is that it can also be called “the complacent zone” or “the no growth zone”.  But, we don’t have to get extreme to get outside our comfort zone and find profound growth. Even ONE step outside our comfort zone can be deeply meaningful and transformative.”

Understanding Your Comfort Zone

While your comfort zone provides a cozy cocoon, it may also prevent you from experiencing new opportunities. Remaining in this safe space can limit self-growth, lead to regrets, and lower self-confidence. You may even falsely believe you can’t succeed at new activities. 

As Toni says, “We don’t have to sacrifice growth or magic at any stage of life. So… stay curious. Take a risk. Have an adventure. Embrace the magic. Revel in the transformation. Step out of your comfort zone and into your growth zone.”

If you’re struggling to break free of your comfort zone, it might be helpful to identify why. Are you anxious about making mistakes? Do you fear criticism? Is it stressful when others are better at something? Or is it something else entirely? 

Whatever is holding you back, finding a judgment-free space to try new things (including dance workout classes!) can help. To get started, look for an activity just a little beyond your comfort zone. This can build up your self-confidence and launch you towards even broader ventures.

You can choose from high-energy, high-impact signature Cardio Sculpt and Power Sculpt classes or go with more targeted options like Cardio, Sculpt, or Stretch. We also offer low-impact variations.

Embracing the Learning Process

As you prepare to get out of your comfort zone with dance, there are a few important things to keep in mind. First, you will soon enter an initial learning period where your dancing may not always, well, coordinate perfectly with those around you. We want you to know this is totally normal! Remember: There are no mistakes at Jazzercise… only accidental solos!

You may be surprised to learn your classmates will be so focused on what they’re doing they won’t even notice your “original” moves. If they do look your way, it will only be to smile and cheer you on!

Also, remember that your time in the learning period is temporary. Most people feel much more comfortable after just a couple of our dance workout classes. If you continue struggling with new movements, check in with your FitPro instructor for expert tips. We are totally there for you!

FitPro Toni points out that everyone was a newbie once! “We’ve ALL been in your shoes – literally – we were all new to Jazzercise at some point. At Jazzercise, we applaud you for joining us no matter your ability, level, stage, etc. Whatever the reason for your nervousness, it’ll seem insignificant or nonexistent by your third class. Stick with it, those nerves are a clear indicator that you’re growing. Props.”
