(CARLSBAD, CA) – Ever wish that you could strength train your brain? Believe it or not, it’s actually possible! By exercising, eating right, and changing a few daily habits, you can power-up your intellect.
In a recent study conducted at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, participants performed better on memory tests after doing aerobic activity. Additional studies show that individuals who regularly exercise actually have a larger hippocampus, the section of the brain responsible for learning and memory.

2. Be Consistent – Jazzercise Founder and CEO Judi Sheppard Missett recommends a minimum of 30 minutes of aerobic activity on most days of the week. If you’re inconsistent, then you won’t reap the same results as exercising on a regular basis.
3. Pack on the Protein – Eating foods that are high in protein will give your brain an energy boost. Protein increases the epinephrine and dopamine levels in your brain, both of which make you more energized and alert.
4. Go Green – Green tea is known for its beneficial flavonoids, antioxidants that help mental performance. Fruits and vegetables, like blueberries and spinach, also promote brain cell production.
5. Don’t Skimp on Sleep – When you’re sleep deprived, your brain has a decreased capacity to store new information. You need a minimum of eight hours of Zzzs every night for maximum brainpower.
6. No Butts – Smoking puts you at risk for cerebrovascular disease, a decreased circulation of blood to your brain. If you didn’t have a reason to quit before, then perhaps you mental health is enough motivation to butt-out.
If it seems daunting to do everything at once, then try implementing just one or two of these tips to boost your brainpower this week. Then, gradually make more changes a little at a time.
